A year signing a three-year, $33MM contract, many questions remain regarding Jeff Hoffman.

In a press conference, General Manager Ross Atkins says that Hoffman, who 9-7 with 33 saves last year while sporting a 4.37 ERA, isn't married to the idea of closing.
This added fuel to the rumours that theBlue Jays were pursuing a high-end arm for the back of their bullpen; names like Edwin Diaz and Robert Suarez have both been mentioned
But could the Blue Jays actually go one step further?
Every MLB team's player most likely to be traded this offseason 👀

In a recent article for Bleacher Report, Kerry Miller says he can see Hoffman being shipped out of town.
Could also see the Blue Jays trading from their surplus of outfielders, especially if they're able to re-sign Bo Bichette, at which point they would be bringing back all 13 of the team leaders in plate appearances. But between the 4.37 ERA during the regular season and the Miguel Rojas home run that will live in infamy in Canada, if the Blue Jays aren't aggressively shopping Hoffman this winter, they're at least going to be receptive to offers. It helps that there are plenty of closers available in free agency to backfill that job

Hoffman's inconsistencies, as well as his penchant for giving up home runs, were a point of consternation among Blue Jays fall all season - though previously closers arguably had it worse - and while had some success, his high ERA made his future as a closer questionable.

Hoffman arguable most valuable offseason addition

At the same time however, out of the "big names" that the Blue Jays added last season, Hoffman was arguably the most valuable and the only one not to spend any time on the injured list.
While Toronto could easily move forward with Hoffman as their closer for 2026, clearly nothing is certain.
