Ernie Clement sets playoff record as historic postseason continues

There are great postseason hitters. Then there is Ernie Clement.
The Toronto Blue Jays infielder's magical October run continued with another two-hit performance - including a go-ahead RBI single - during Friday night's Game 1 victory over the Los Angeles Dodgers.
In doing so, Clement set a modern playoff record.
According to Just Baseball, Clement is the only player in major league history to start a postseason with 20+ hits and two or fewer strike outs in the first 12 games of a single postseason.

While the playoffs used to be shorter, consisting of only one or two rounds until the Wild Card era began in 1995, it is still an impressive feat considering the number of great hitters who have played October baseball.
Now, Clement stands above them all.

Clement's contributions are a big part of why the Blue Jays have been so successful on route to the World Series. They are renowned as contact-first team that rarely strikes outs and gets contributions from all players.
Overall, Clement is slashing .435/.449./.609 with one home run and eight RBIS. His OPS is above 1.000
With at least three games remaining, Clement likely adds to his already astounding record.
