The Minnesota Twins have signed right-handed pitcher Tyler Beede to a minor league deal. He will report to Triple-A St. Paul. Ari Alexander of KPRC 2 was the first to report the deal.

It's been a long road for the twice-drafted former first round pick. Beede was initially selected by the Toronto Blue Jays with the 21st overall selection in the 2011 major league draft. However, he chose not to sign and instead committed to Vanderbilt University. He turned down a $2.5MM signing bonus, the only first-rounder that year not to sign with a major league team.
He was drafted again three years later, this time by the San Francisco Giants. He moved up seven spots and was the 14th overall pick. He made his debut with them four years later, appearing in two games, before making 24 starts with San Francisco in 2019.
His career stalled after a 2020 injury after two more seasons split between the Giants and Pirates, he spent 2023 with Yomiuri Giants of NPB in Japan.
He resurfaced with the Guardians in 2024 but struggled to an 8.36 ERA in 13 games.
Despite his age, Beede only has 71 games of big league experience. While he could be a valuable relief or spot start option, his lack of success and consistency at the major league indicates that it is an uphill battle for him to return to the show.
That being said, the Twins don't possess a ton of depth and so even if Beede's number's aren't outstanding, he could find his way onto the team.
For his career Beede is 8-16 with a 5.55 ERA and 181 strikeouts across 201.1 innings in 71 games, including 29 starts.
