Former Toronto Blue Jays outfielder Lourdes Gurriel Jr. to miss next 10 months with torn ACL, jeopardizing his 2026 season.
The outfielder, who was dealt along with Gabriel Moreno from the Blue Jays to the Arizona Diamondbacks for Daulton Varsho in a much-talked about trade following the 2022 season, recently underwent surgery after being diagnosed with a torn ACL just over a week ago.
The recovery time is typically 9-10 months, which will sideline Gurriel Jr. until at least after next season's All-Star break.
The injury ended what was a down campaign for the 2023 All-Star.
Not known for his defensive ability, Gurriel has settled in nicely, who posts a wRC+ in the 105-115 range on an annual basis, with a 109 wRC+ overall for his career.
Lourdes Gurriel Jr. underwent ACL surgery on his right knee this Thursday. The Arizona Diamondbacks outfielder will face a recovery period of 9-10 months.
Gurriel put up historic numbers in August
The timing is unfortunate for both Gurriel and the D-Backs, as the 31 year old had put together one of the most impressive months Arizona has seen in Franchise history in August.

Fortunately for Arizona, a plethora of quality outfielders - including Corbin Carroll - should help mitigate any pain felt by the loss of Gurriel.
The outfielder is expected back sometime in July or August of next year.
