Former Blue Jays pitcher DFA'd by Mariners

The Seattle Mariners have designated pitcher Hagen Danner for assignment. The team now has seven days to trade, release, or outright the right-hander. This is the corresponding move for Luis F. Castillo whom the Mariners added to the 40-man roster on Thursday.
The Mariners claimed Danner off waivers from the
Blue Jays in January, following his DFA by Toronto.
During Spring Training, he pitched 3.1 innings but gave up five earned runs. After being sent to Triple-A, he threw 2.1 scoreless innings.
Drafted as a catcher by the Blue Jays in the second round of the 2017 draft, he was converted to a pitcher in 2021. He made his debut with the team in 2023, pitching one-third of inning before leaving the game with an apparent injury.
The Blue Jays decision to cut him loose was slightly curious as he was granted another option year due to his injury history.
Given his interesting status, he could be a low-risk depth for many teams and could be stashed in the minors without being exposed to waivers. If he goes unclaimed, the Mariners could keep in Tacoma as non-roster pitching depth.
It's been a rough road for Danner, who has struggled to remain healthy and find consistency. While he has had success at Triple-A, he has yet to be given a full opportunity at the big league level.
His career minor league ERA is 2.93, to go along with a 28.3% strikeout rate and 8.7% walk rate.
He has the stuff - and the numbers - to succeed. Now he just needs someone to give him a chance.
