The Seattle Mariners announced that pitcher Hagen Danner has cleared waivers and will be sent outright to Triple-A Tacoma. Danner had been designated for assignment last week after the promotion of pitcher Luis F. Castillo.

Players are allowed to refuse such an assignment if they have a previous outright in their career or at least three years of experience. Since neither applies to Danner, he'll stick around as depth without taking up a roster spot.
Danner has all of 0.1 inning of major league experience. His big league debut with the Blue Jays in 2023 was cut short because of injury. He was eventually placed on the 60 day IL and was DFA'd by the Jays in January after their acquisition of Jeff Hoffman.
Still, the Mariners are intrigued by his talent and could turn to him later in the year if they require more pitching help as the season wears on.
Danner, who was a two-way player in college, was originally drafted by the Blue Jays as a catcher. While he had some decent offensive numbers, he decided to make the switch to the mound full-time in 2021. He has posted some decent rate stats but as also been beset by injuries.
Since converting to pitching, he has thrown 116.2 innings and has a career ERA of 2.93, to go along with a 28.3% strikeout rate.
Danner is still just 26 and so has time to continue his development and find himself. He has the raw talent to be a valuable bullpen arm, he just needs to find ways to stay healthy.
If he can do that, he'll have success, if he doesn't, he may not stick around.
