Former Toronto Blue Jays outfielder plays hero, continues to set records in Caribbean Series

While it doesn't the same prestige as the upcoming World Baseball Classic the Caribbean Series still offers plenty of action.

The first contest - between Puerto Rico's Cangrejos de Santurce and Mexico's Tomateros de Culican - featured a two-run walk-off single for the Puerto Ricans to win it 5-4.

The 2nd game had even more excitement and featured former Toronto Blue Jays outfielder Junior Lake, who is playing in his ninth series and who is the active leader in games played, plate appearances, and RBI's. The veteran delivered a key three-run double for Leones del Escogido, leading the Dominican side to victory.

The event also featured a ceremonial first pitch by former Blue Jays reliever - and man with a universal personality - Sergio Romo, who was formerly a member of the contest's hosts Charros de Jalisco

While Lake hasn't played in the majors in nearly a decade, he has found success in the Mexican League, in addition to his Caribbean Series heroics.

In 89 games for the Toros de Tijuana this past season, Lake hit 299/.392/.493 while clubbing 16 home runs and adding 80 RBIs.

In addition to the 22 games he played for Toronto in 2016, Lake has also made brief appearances for the Baltimore Orioles and Chicago Cubs.

The next two games of the series feature a contest between the two Sunday winners, as well as the debut of Panama's FFederales de Chiriqui skippered by national team manager Jose Mayorga.

The semi-final is on Friday, while the championship match will take place on Saturday.
