For months he has been wondering whether or not the ultimate feat of baseball strength and skill was possible.
It was something that has never been attempted, but had set the greatest minds wondering for months.
Could you throw a baseball from the CN Tower to third base? Several hundred feet below at the Rogers Centre.
He put the question to Blue Jays fans and even some of the world's greatest athletes.
Some of the most important work I have ever done
While most fans thought the task impossible, many Jays players pointed to one many who could possibly muster enough strength to pull of this extraordinary feat.
A man with the right combination of accuracy and brute strength and with the biceps to boot:
Addison BargerShawn McKenzie wasn't satisfied with these answers however. Like any good reporter, he consulted an expert.
In this case, that expert was
Dan Weaver, associate professor of physics at the University of Toronto.
Theoretically possible, but highly unlikely, according to Weaver
While Weaver said that it is highly unlikely a ball could be thrown from the CN Tower to third base, like any good scientist does, he left room for error and variables.
If everything imaginable goes exactly right, there is a slim possibility of it happening
Emphasis on the world slim. Still, it was music to McKenzie's ears.
For reference, the EdgeWalk is 365 metres high, while the distance to third base would be 263 metres.
One of the most consequential factors, according to weaver, is air resistance. It is more likely that the ball could be thrown into the dome, just not necessarily at third base.
