The Toronto Blue Jays defeated the Atlanta Braves 6-2 in Sunday afternoon Grapefruit League action in Dunedin. With the win, the Blue Jays improve to 13-8-1 in Spring Training and remain in 1st place in the Grapefruit League standings.
Jose berrios was in the zone early and looked like he was in mid-season form, giving up just four hits while striking out seven in six scoreless innings of work.
With a little over 10 days left in Spring Training, many regulars are playing deeper into ballgames.
The Blue Jays got on the board in the second inning thanks to an RBI single from Alan Roden, who is doing all he can to force himself onto the opening day roster. They added three more in the sixth to stake themselves to a 4-0 lead.
Andres Gimenez homered, Alejandro Kirk hit a RBI single and Alan Roden added a sacrifice fly before the inning was up. The Blue Jays have been counting on a offensive resurgence from Gimenez and so far he is proving them right, hitting .273 with six RBIs.
The Braves finally got on the board in the seventh, getting a run back off Chad Green. Anthony Santander answered with an RBI single in the bottom of the frame and the teams exchanged runs again in the eighth. Kade Kern hit an RBI single off Nick Sandlin before Christian Bethancourt hit a RBI double to put the Blue Jays back up by four.
Jacob Barnes pitched a scoreless ninth to seal the deal for Toronto.
The Blue Jays remain a half-game on the Houston Astros in the quest for the Golden Grapefruit with a bout a week left to play.
