Not even a hurricane can stop the Tampa Bay Rays.

After previously coming up with tentative plans to have his vacate Tropicana Field, Rays owner Stu Sternberg released the following statement:
As we all recover from impacts of the hurricanes, we are incredibly grateful for the support from our fans and the wider Tampa Bay community. After careful deliberation, we have concluded that we cannot move forward with the new ballpark and development project at this moment. A series of events beginning in October that no one could have anticipated led to this difficult decision.

Tropicana has long been problematic for both the Rays and major league, rating as one of the worst stadiums in all of professional sports. The league has been pressuring the Rays to get a new home field for years.
Not only that, but the Rays are currently at extending their lease at Tropicana by another ten years. This comes as calls for Sternberg to sell the team have increased in recent weeks,
Due to the damage sustained from Hurricane Milton, the Rays will be playing their home games at George M. Steinbrenner Field, the Spring Training home of the New York Yankees.
It's a situation the Blue Jays know all too well. During the pandemic-shortened season of 2020, the Blue Jays played home games at Sahlen Field, home of their Triple-A affiliate Buffalo Bisons. In 2021, the played at both Sahlen and TD Ballpark in Dunedin before finally being allowed back in Canada in July.
At least the Rays don't have to travel far.
