The Toronto Blue Jays defeated the Washington Nationals 5-3 on Tuesday night at Rogers Centre. With the win, the Blue Jays, who have won three in a row, are now 4-2 on the season.
The Blue Jays got on the board early, getting all of their runs in the second inning. with an RBI ground out sandwiched between five singles.
With Andres Gimenez on first and Alejandro Kirk on third, George Springer brought home the first run. Will Wagner then bunted his way aboard, before grounded into a force out, scoring Kirk. Alan Roden then hit an infield single to second baseman CJ Abrams, which brought home Springer.
Berrios cruised through five innings before running into trouble in the sixth. After giving up a single to Alex Call, Berrios got Jacob Young to ground into a force out. CJ Abrams singled and then stole second base. Catcher Keibert Ruiz then hit a single of his own, driving home two runs.
After Berrios walked Nathaniel Lowe, Yariel Rodrigues came on in relief. Although he walked Josh Bell to load the bases, Luis Garcia Jr. hit a long fly ball to CF to leave the bases loaded to end the inning.
Mason Fluharty also made his made his major league debut, coming on with two outs in 7th inning. Although he gave an RBI double to tie the game, the run being charged to Rodriguez, he also got his first major league strikeout.
With two out and two on in the bottom of the eighth, Bo Bichette bounced a single through the first base to bring home two runs.
Jeff Hoffman pitched a clean ninth for his second save of the season.
