Albert Pujols impressed by Vladimir Guerrero Jr.’s standout 2026 season.
When fans evaluate Toronto Blue Jays first baseman Vladimir Guerrero Jr., the focus often lands on his home run totals at any given point in the season.
But power numbers only tell part of the story. Home runs are really just a byproduct of what Guerrero does best, consistently hitting the ball hard to all areas of the field.
This year, Guerrero Jr. has been the steady force behind Toronto’s offense, batting a league leading .358 while driving the ball with authority across the diamond.
His recent stretch has been especially dominant. Over his last 19 games, he’s hitting .423 with a 1.044 OPS, adding eight extra-base hits, 11 RBIs, and 15 runs scored. Vladdy is currently tied for the league lead in hit as well, with 39 so far.
Those numbers highlight a hitter operating at an elite level, one who has helped carry the lineup through periods of inconsistency.

Beyond boosting his own performance profile, Guerrero Jr.’s production has brought much-needed balance to a lineup still trying to find its rhythm against different pitching styles and game situations.
Heading into Thursday’s MLB action, the Blue Jays sit at 14–16, fourth in the American League East and 5.5 games behind the New York Yankees.
Still, there are encouraging signs. Toronto has won three straight series, against the Angels, Guardians, and Red Sox, marking a shift in performance after early struggles.
Guerrero Jr gets praise from Pujols and former teammate Kevin Kiermaier
Guerrero Jr.’s hot streak recently drew attention on MLB Network, where comments from Hall of Famer Albert Pujols were shared on social media.
"I love what he's doing. I love that he's hitting .360 and driving the ball all over the place..." - @PujolsFive on Vladimir Guerrero Jr. 👏 #MLBTonight | @BlueJays
Pujols pointed out how uncommon that type of all-around hitting is in today’s game, adding weight to his praise given his own legendary career.
He also highlighted Guerrero Jr.’s ability to use the entire field, drawing from firsthand experience after managing him during the 2026 World Baseball Classic.
Former teammate Kevin Kiermaier, now an MLB Network analyst, echoed that sentiment, emphasizing Guerrero Jr.’s consistency and impact.
"Guerrero gives you quality at-bats every night Kiermaier said, he doesn't strike out three times a game, an incredible hitter who when hot is as good as anybody. I've seen it plenty of times."
As Toronto looks to climb the standings, Guerrero Jr. remains at the center of the team’s outlook.
His continued production is not only driving results but also raising expectations across the organization and around the league, especially as postseason hopes begin to take shape.
