Jordan Romano acting like old self with Phillies this spring

While there was some concern on the Blue Jays end about the health of his elbow, so much so that they went out and signed Jeff Hoffman, it appears that they may have acted in haste.

Romano signed a one-year, $8.5MM deal with the Phillies in the offseason and has been lights out this spring, He has faced a total of 27 batters and has allowed just four hits, striking out eight and walking just one. His ERA is 0.00. This is the Jordan Romano of old.

This is the elite-level closer that made back-to-back All-Star appearances in 2022 and 2023.

Clearly it wasn't about the money for the Blue Jays, who signed Hoffman to a three year, $33MM deal. Hoffman's contract cost them about 50% more than Romano would have. Still, it's a closer-swap that looks like it will work out for both teams.

But how is Romano feeling post-surgery?

Romano has embraced change, thriving in his new environment. And the results are showing.

Romano pitched against the Blue Jays a few days ago and other than hitting Orelvis Martinez - causing the prospect to leave the game early, he pitched a scoreless 0.2 innings, picking up the win against his former team.

Romano's Phillies face the Blue Jays again on Friday.
