And that caught the attention of current Blue Jays starter
Kevin Gausman, who moments after his team polished off the New York Yankees in the Bronx, posted his approval of Wallen's wardrobe choice.
Wallen, who played back-to-back nights at the Rogers Centre, spent part of Friday's concert clad in a vintage Jays Roy Halladay jersey, a tribute to the late, legendary starter whose name is on the Level of Excellence at the stadium.
That prompted a post from Gausman, who had just shut down the Yankees through a brilliant eight-inning start during the Jays' 7-1 win at Yankee Stadium.
Mad respect to @MorganWallen for wearing a Roy Halladay jersey for his concert in Rogers Centre! Real recognize real! #GeauxBlueJays
Gausman's post had captured more than 131,000 views on X by late Saturday morning, with many responding to the right hander's superb start against the Yankees.
As a Colorado native, like Halladay, Gausman has always revered his idol and wears the same No. 34 to honour him.
Gausman switched from 32, which he had worn previously in his career, to 34 after Halladay tragically died in a plane crash in 2017.
«Roy was my guy growing up,» Gausman told the Denver Gazette when the Jays faced the Rockies earlier this summer. «He was the guy that I looked at. There weren't many of us (coming out of Colorado) so I was kind of like, 'If he can do it, maybe I can."
«I think about watching him and his bulldog mentality. Now I've been lucky enough to play for the organization that he stamped his career in. It's been really cool to hear all the Roy Halladay stories in Toronto.»
And cool to see a popular country artist honour the Doc, who was inducted to the Level of Excellence in 2018, on the same field that Gausman does most of his work.
