Addison Barger is finally starting his rehab assignment.
Toronto Blue Jays outfielder Addison Barger will continue his journey to return from the injured list with a rehab assignment beginning on Sunday with Single-A Dunedin.
Barger suffered injuries to both ankles while running down the first-base line on April 5 against the White Sox and hasn’t been able to play since.
MLB.com’s Keegan Matheson notes Barger would likely only need a few rehab games and could be ready to play for the Blue Jays sometime during their next homestand from May 8-13.
The 26-year-old was hitting just .053 with two RBIs over eight games before getting hurt.
Barger was expected to play a big role in the Blue Jays’ offence this year after hitting .243 with 21 home runs and 74 RBIs alongside a .756 OPS over 135 games in 2025, his second season in the Majors.
In the playoffs, Barger hit .367 with an 1.025 OPS, including three homers and nine RBIs.
Jose Berrios to make one more rehab start at Triple-A
Starting pitcher Jose Berrios is also nearing a return as he is expected to throw his next bullpen with Triple-A Buffalo.
The Blue Jays aren’t sure if Berrios will make another rehab start with the Bisons.
Berrios allowed five earned run, including two homers, during his third and most recent rehab start on Tuesday, pitching in Triple-A.
The veteran right-handed hasn’t pitched this season due to an elbow injury.
Berrios, 31, posted a 4.17 ERA and 138 strikeouts over 31 games and 166 innings pitched in 2025, his fourth full season in Toronto. He did not pitch in the playoffs.
The Blue Jays hold a 14-16 record entering Thursday’s series-opener against the Minnesota Twins.
