The Blue Jays are going all in for their fans. After two off-seasons worth of renovations and additional level added this fall, the full experience is now on display at Rogers.
The man who spearheaded the renovations was President
Mark Shapiro.
While many fans are critical of the job Shapiro and Atkins have done while in control of the team, Shapiro also knows how important a fan's experience is and spent his recent television interview talking about
Club 328, a new premium bar in the heart of right field.
Shapiro, whose contract expires in 2026, has hinted that there is more to come in future off-seasons.
In general, we are taking a multipurpose 1980's stadium, circular, concrete in nature, and turning into more of a baseball-specific ballpark with fan entertainment and amenities for all types of fans, not just hardcore baseball fans
It's too early to tell whether the coddling will help ease fans skepticism towards this team, especially as ticket remain and out of budget for many fans who trying to balance food, rent, and the expenses of living in the city.
On the team's recent lack of success in the playoffs, Shapiro further risked alienating himself from Blue Jays fans saying:
Baseball is not a game where winning playoffs predicates success...
While he is technically right, it's not exactly the best thing to say to a fanbase currently at peak volatility.
If the Blue Jays have another down, it's hard to see how Shapiro keeps his job beyond the end of his contract, even if he does have future renovation plans.
Let's his new fan experience ideas pay off.
