With the Toronto Blue Jays still looking to make some pitching moves, they could turn to an old friend to help out in their bullpen.

SportsNet baseball insider Ben Nicholson-Smith recently posted on social media about how the team could pursue a reunion with left-handed pitcher Tim Mayza.
Nicholson-Smith postulates that Mayza could conceivably return to his former team on a minor league deal.
Ketel Marte has been linked to the Blue Jays, a team that's nothing if not thorough. Yet they appear to be on the periphery of those talks rather than in the middle of them
Mayza was drafted by the Blue Jays inn 2013 and spent over a decade in the organization, including parts of seven seasons with the big league club from 2017-2024.
He became an integral part of the Blue Jays bullpen and a dependable left-handed option. His best season came in 2023, when he appeared in 69 games and had a sparkling 1.92 ERA.
However, he fell apart in 2024, lost his effectiveness, and saw his Earned Run Average balloon to 8.03. He was eventually designated for assignment, released, and then picked up by division rivals the New York Yankees.
While he had some success in 15 games in Pinstripes, he was non-tendered by the Yanks at the end of the season.
Mayza spent 2025 in Pennsylvania, split between the Pittsburgh Pirates and Philadelphia Phillies. Had a 2.89 ERA through seven games for the Bucs but landed on the 60-day IL with a lat strain. HHe then appeared in eight games for Philly in September.

Reunion could make sense for both sides

While the Blue Jays front office hasn't much regarding Mayza, Nicholson-Smith reported that the two sides are engaged in talks.
A reunion would make sense for the Blue Jays too. John Schneider - the last manager Mayza played for as a member of the Blue Jays - knows the lefty well and would love to have him as an option behind MMason Fluharty and Brendon Little, the latter of whom had an up-and-down 2025.
