Milwaukee Brewers latest injury woes give Toronto Blue Jays opening in crucial series

The Milwaukee Brewers have been bit by the injury bug losing key players heading into a three-game series vs the Toronto Blue Jays on Tuesday.
According to Adam McCalvy of MLB.com, the Brewers announced on Tuesday that they placed outfielder/designated hitter Christian Yelich on the 10-day injured list due to a left groin strain.
The Brewers estimate Yelich to be out until mid-to-late May, so about four to six weeks, per Todd Rosiak of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel.
Today’s IL placement marks the third time in the past couple weeks that Milwaukee has lost a core lineup piece due to injury.
Yelich joins outfielder Jackson Chourio and first baseman Andrew Vaughn on the injured list.
Both have hand fractures, Chourio a hairline fracture after being hit by a pitch and Vaughn a hamate fracture that required surgery.

Despite each team missing three core players each, the Blue Jays have an advantage

The Brewers will face to Blue Jays tonight without three of their core players in Yelich, Chourio, and Vaughn.
While Toronto will be without key contributors like George Springer, Alejandro Kirk, and Addison Barger.
It will be a hospital series of sorts, however with Kevin Gausman and Dylan Cease are starting two of three games, paired with a well rested bullpen the Blue Jays have an advantage in this series on the pitching side.
Yelich’s move to the injured list will open some playing time for a series of bench options and platoon bats to rotate through the designated hitter slot in the lineup.
Backup catcher Gary Sánchez could see some looks there, as could switch-hitting infielder Luis Rengifo and infielder David Hamilton.
Toronto has a deeper bench with Eloy Jimenez, Davis Schneider, Myles Straw and now infielder Lenyn Sosa, whom they acquired in trade from the Chicago white Sox.
Sosa will be active for tonight's game, as per the team.
Blue Jays veteran Kevin Gausman will be on the bump versus hard throwing right-hander Jacob Misiorowski.
First Pitch is at 7:40 PM ET on Sportsnet, Brewers TV, and on Sportsnet 590 The Fan radio.
