The Minnesota Twins are certainly stocking up on former members of the Toronto Blue Jays.

Shortly after it was announced that the Twins had signed former Blue Jays reliever Liam Hendriks to a minor league deal, Dan Hayes of The Athletic reported that Minnesota has also reached an agreement with right-hander Julian Merryweather on a similarly-structured deal.

Twins have several spots available in bullpen

Merryweather made his big league with the Jays in 2019 after being acquired from the Cleveland Guardians in exchange for Josh Donaldson.
Once a highly-touted, through injury-prone top prospect, Merryweather had a sizzling fastball which made him an attractive piece as both a start and a reliever.
However, his tenure in Canada ended up being largely uneventful, as he battled injuries and control issues, ultimately being DFA'd just prior to the 2023 season.
Overall, his career with the Blue Jays was 0-4 with a 5.64 ERA in 47 games in including five starts.
He was picked up by the Chicago Cubs and had some success, improving to a 4.26 ERA and a 6-3 record in 105 games.
However, he regressed in 2025 and was designated for assignment in May, and while he appeared in the minor leagues for both the New York Mets and Milwaukee Brewers, he has yet to make it back to the major leagues.
While Merryweather isn't as much of a shoo-in for a bullpen gig as Hendriks, the Twins do have four spots available and if Merryweather pitches well, he could find himself in a major league uniform come opening day.
