MLB insider bucks trend, picks Blue Jays to win the pennant

In spite of their offseason, many projections have the Blue Jays finishing anywhere from third to fifth in the American League East and once again missing the playoffs.
A recent article in the
New York Post emphasizes this point. Out of the six baseball writers who contributed, five of them had the Blue Jays coming in fourth - between the
Red Sox and
Rays - or fifth in the AL East. But one writer appears to have bucked the trend:
Mike Puma.
Puma has been covering baseball since 1998, has reported on over 2500 games and currently works as a Mets beat reporter. He's no slouch. And yet his bold prediction stands out across the baseball world.
Predicting that the Blue Jays will win the AL East is won, but Puma has them going all the way to the World Series, where they will ultimately lose to the
Dodgers.
Puma's prediction highlights the polarizing feelings many have about the Blue Jays this season, with some feeling that they went out and achieved exactly what they needed to this offseason, with others still believing that the Blue Jays did nothing and are well short of their goals.
Many things have to go right for the Blue Jays in order them to fulfill Puma's prophecy. The bullpen is one, more power is another. It could happen, but in reality, so could anything else. That's the funny thing about baseball.
We're only two games into the season so we have a long way to go before how accurate Puma's prediction will be.
At least we can watch baseball again.
