Even though he thinks the Blue Jays will be competitive, Verducci acknowledges that they have some assets to deal from, specifically mentioning Guerrero and his lack of extension.
I'm looking at teams like the Padres and Blue Jays... who I think will be competitive but who have some assets, like Vladimir Guerrero Jr. if they don't get that extension done. Like Dylan Cease for the Padres.
It's an interesting stance to take, especially since many feel that the Jays would only trade Guerrero if they are in sell-mode, which would indicate that they aren't going to be competitive.

Dan O'Dowd says many teams might not even wait until the trade deadline, though he didn't specifically mention the Blue Jays as being on of those teams that would shop early.
Verducci doesn't say which team or teams Vladdy would be traded to, just that the Blue Jays might deal him come the summer time.
In spite of their of extension, both Guerrero and the Blue Jays have openly said that they want to stick together and are hopeful that an agreement can be worked out. After being roughly $50 million apart in the last round of negotiations, the Blue Jays are said to have offered him another deal, a lot closer to his asking price.
If they finally do come to an accord, look for this distraction and nonsense and trade talks to finally disappear.
