For the second time this week, the Philadelphia Phillies have signed a former member of the Toronto Blue Jays' bullpen.
After agreeing to a deal with Canadian right-hander Zach Pop on Monday, the Phillies have now come to terms with left-handed pitcher Genesis Cabrera.
As reported by Spanish Language insider Mike Rodriguez, Cabrera has agreed to one year minor league contract with an invitation to Spring Training.
LHP Génesis Cabrera signed a one-year minor league contract with the Philadelphia Phillies, with an invitation to Spring Training.
Cabrera pitched parts of two seasons for the Blue Jays after being acquired from the St. Louis Cardinals just prior to the 2023 trade deadline.
While he performed well for Toronto, pitching to a 4-3 record with a 3.34 ERA in 98 games, it has been a different story since he left the organization.
After being outrighted off the roster and declaring free agency, he appeared on four different major league rosters in 2025 and had a combined 6.50 ERA in 40 games.
While he will have to fight for a job with the Phillies come Spring Training, his previous track record and experience as well as being a lefty arm, could give him an edge over other candidates.
Cabrera loved by fans
Cabrera's most infamous moment with the Blue Jays came early on in the 2024 season when he was suspended three games for shoving Jose Caballero of the Tampa Bay Rays. It was an incident that made him ironically loved by the Blue Jays fan base.
Cabrera is still just 29 years old.
