Ross Atkins on Blue Jays' offensive woes: "It has to get better"

Ross Atkins knows that the team he assembled has some holes. In a way, it's a good thing that they are obvious. Still, after an anemic April, one of the things that the Blue Jays General Manager pinpointed the most was the offence, or the lack thereof.
"Obviously, [the offence] has to get better. We've worked tirelessly over the last year and a half to correct that. We do believe in the adjustments we've made and do believe that good things are coming, but we can't rest on that. We have to acknowledge that it is an issue. We've made adjustments to personnel and our roster -- 26-man and 40-man -- that we feel like will correct, but we need to see that.»
Still, entering Friday's game against the Guardians, the Jays ranked 27th in runs scored with 108, and are 29th in home runs with just 21. And this is from a team that league in homers just four years ago.
For an organization that talks so much about process, it's good to see unequivocal emphasis being placed on the results.
"I know that we have guys who hit the ball hard. It's about getting the ball in the air more and getting guys into better counts and situations to do damage. We've seen damage, we just haven't seen it go over the wall as much.»
Hopefully, the Blue Jays can carry some momentum from the last three games into the weekend and beyond. If the team can find a way to unlock it's power potential, the Blue Jays could be a force to be reckoned with.
If not, it's going to be a long season.
