Scherzer to visit hand specialist

Max Scherzer is set to visit a hand specialist on Monday following his being placed on the IL with right thumb soreness. Scherzer took himself out of the game in the third inning of his Blue Jays debut.
After trying to pitch through the pain, the future Hall of Famer later said he was in imminent danger if he were to continue.
While he is set to miss at least his next start, the severity of his thumb issue is not yet known, although whenever one visits a specialist they are usually preparing for the worst.
Replacing a guy like Scherzer is a Herculean task for many and in the interim the Blue Jays will turn to
Yariel Rodriguez and/or
Easton Lucas to fill the void.
Although Scherzer was diagnosed with "right lat soreness" after he left the game on Saturday, Scherzer said in a post-game interview that it was 100% related to his thumb.
It's an issue that has been problematic for a couple of seasons now, and one that limited him to just nine starts in 2024. Unfortunately for the Blue Jays and Scherzer, it seems to be getting worse, not better.
While the Jays have no choice but to be cautiously optimistic, they also need to prepare for the worst. If Scherzer misses significant time then
Jake Bloss will eventually become a factor as might Eric Lauer.
Will Scherzer pitch again? While it's certainly too early to answer that question, it will definitely be on the minds of many Blue Jays fans.
For now, all Blue Bird nation can do is wait.
