We all remember where we were when Davis Schneider burst onto the scene in 2023. The man they call Babe became the stuff of legend almost immediately.

And then 2024 happened. A strong first two months gave way to a .159 average the rest of the way. Now, he's to prove that he's worthy of one of the final spots on the Blue Jays roster..
The main point of reflection for Schneider was that he realized that he was "getting out of his swing", trying to hard to hit singles, and not being true to himself.
I feel like I was searching for hits last year, trying to poke stuff instead of trying to get my best swing off. I wasn't focused on doing damage. I was searching for singles and stuff like that. That's not my game. Getting on base and extra-base hits, that's where I hold value.

To his credit, Schneider never hid from this. He knew he had to examine what was going and what he needed to do to get better.
I learned a lot from what I did well and what I did bad. It's about going back, seeing where I went wrong and making those adjustments in-season, not just in the offseason. You're going to hit that lull, but it's a matter of how long you're in that lull for. The good players, they're not in there for a long time. [Vladimir Guerrero Jr.], he could go 0-for, then the next day he'll go off. They're not long.

While his defence, particularly in the outfield, has improved over the last year, his calling card will always be his hitting. The Blue Jays know Schneiderhas power, and could be a valuable right-handed hitter off the bench in late-game or pinch hit situations.
He has had a decent spring too, hitting .292 with one home run, three RBI, and a .485 OBP. This last number is key as it shows he is walking more and being more patient at the plate. It is over 200 points higher than his 2024 totals.
Still, Schneider knows nothing is guaranteed. If he keeps doing what he's doing though, he should go north with the Blue Jays on the 27th.
