The end of the minor league season brings about many changes.
Whilst many players are being players are being called up to the big leagues, many others are also being released.
Case in point Alcalde was let go by the club on Monday, and is the second minor league pitcher to be released by the team, following Luis Quinones.
Originally from Venezuela, Alcalde had made it as high as Double-A Dunedin before before seeing his release from the club.
Alcalde first came to the Blue Jays in the summer of 2021, after being signed as an international free agent.
In his first season in the Dominican Summer League, he went 3-4 with a 3.38 ERA.
He worked his way up to Double-A New Hampshire, but after battling injuries for the better part of 2025, it was decided that releasing would be the best for his development.
Much like the recently-released fellow pitcher
Luis Quinones, Alcalde suffered from the injury bug, which hurt his progress a development.
In his minor league career, Alcalde went 16-18 with a 4.15 ERA, but onyl 60 strikeouts over 61 innings.
Alcalde'a biggest detriment has been his high walk total. While he was still able to strike out 260 batters, he also walked 96 hitters. He also had 33 complete games in the stand.
This year with Double-A Alcalde put up decent numbers, going 0-3 with a 3.86 ERA and two saves in as many chances. He also started 13 games.
Just 22, Alcalde could prove to be a valuable asset, for a team looking to its depth. While he is yet to make his major league debut, Alcalde is poised and ready.
