Starting pitcher overview
In his last outing, Scherzer pitched four hitless innings, recording one strikeout and one walk. His fastball averaged 94.0 mph and reached a top speed of 95.8 mph.
His lone strikeout came against Phillies outfielder Brandon Marsh, who went down swinging on an 85.6 mph changeup in a full-count situation.
The 41-year old's stuff looks basically the same as last season, making him a potential backend starter for Toronto entering the season.
Tarik Skubal gets the ball for the Tigers today. This will be the left-handers fist appearance of the spring since pitching for team USA in the WBC.
In that appearance with the American squad, Skubal permitted one run over three innings against Team Great Britain.
He was mulling whether to remain with Team USA to make another start, but Skubal will instead rejoin the Tigers after the lone WBC outing, which was his original intention.
Skubal threw 41 pitches in his start for Team USA and will continue to build his stamina with the Tigers before taking the ball for them Opening Day on March 26 versus the Padres.
