Tigers rookie Jackson Jobe gets the ball for Detroit today. Jobe (3-0) yielded a run on three hits and five walks over 5.2 innings in his last outing, striking out seven and earning a win against Boston.
Jobe worked through five scoreless frames before Wilyer Abreu popped a solo homer in the sixth inning.
It was Jobe's first win since April 18 and a promising rebound performance after allowing six runs against the Rockies in his last outing.
He forced 15 whiffs on 100 pitches but he's displaying the command issues that appeared in the minors last season.
Jobe has registered a 27:20 K:BB through 33.1 innings in 2025 and has walked at least four batters in three of his seven outings. He'll carry a 4.32 ERA into his start today against the Blue Jays
Jose Berrios is on the Bump for Toronto. In his last outing Berrios allowed five runs on five hits and three walks while striking out four in 5.1 innings against the Rays. He did not factor into the decision.
Berrios was tagged for four runs in the third, including a two-run homer by Jonathan Aranda. Berrios retired the side in order in the second, fourth and fifth innings and appeared to be on his way toward another quality start, but a leadoff single and then a one-out walk in the sixth ended his day.
It marked the first time Berrios has allowed five runs since his season debut, and it was his fifth outing with at least three walks.
Berrios hasn't had a BB/9 over 2.5 since the shortened 2020 COVID season but this year his BB/9 is at 4.2. He's in for a tough test this afternoon versus this Tigers lineup.
