Tommy Nance pitching for the Blue Jays

The Buffalo Bisons have activated pitcher Tommy Nance from the Temporary inactive list and he will now be available to pitch in ball games for the club.

Although he is now active, he is still not on the 40-man roster for the Blue Jays. Nance is out of options and thus would have to pitch for the major league club if he were to be added to 40-man. Instead, he'll continue to provide depth in Buffalo.
Nance made 20 appearances for the Blue Jays in 2024 after being acquired from the San Diego Padres for cash in August of last year. He had mixed success, going 0-3 with a 4.09 ERA and 19 strikeouts in 22 innings of work.
The right hander was designated for assignment just prior to opening day as part of a series of moves in order to add the non-rostered Jacob Barnes, Alan Roden, and Myles Straw to the active roster.
After his DFA, he cleared waivers and ultimately accepted an outright assignment to Buffalo. However, he was placed on the temporary inactive list shortly after. No reason was given, but this list is often used for players who have travel issues, short term assignments such as rehab, or extenuating circumstances.
Although he is now a non-rostered player, he could see time in the big leagues again if the bullpen starts to struggle or is beset by injuries. He could also be a prime trade candidate.
Nance, who has also suited up for the Cubs and Marlins is 3-7 with a 5.15 ERA and 106 strikeouts in 94.1 innings across 82 games.
