The Toronto Blue Jays had rather encouraging news on the return of starting pitcher Jose Berrios ahead of Milwaukee Brewers series on Tuesday.

Toronto Blue Jays manager John Schneider revealed that righty Jose Berrios is set to make his first outing of the spring in Dunedin on Thursday.
Jose Berrios, 32, will make his first rehab appearance Thursday with Dunedin against visiting Clearwater, a Philadelphia Phillies affiliate.
According to MLB.com's Keegan Matheson, Schneider said Berrios will be aiming for around 50 pitches over three innings.
José Berríos will make a rehab start with Single-A Dunedin on Thursday, aiming for three innings and 50 pitches. That’s big news. He’s essentially one (or two) starts behind Yesavage and is now on track to return to the #BlueJays within the next few weeks if all goes well.

Berrios should get an opportunity to reclaim a rotation spot once his rehab is complete

Berrios is working his way back from a stress fracture in his pitching arm.
The injury was discovered when the two-time All-Star underwent a physical to join Puerto Rico at the World Baseball Classic.
The injury is unrelated to the inflammation that ended his 2025 season last September.
As Matheson notes, Berrios is slightly behind Yesavage in their respective recovery processes.
So it may not require a lengthy rehab assignment before being cleared to come off the injured list.
Berrios didn't seem to have a guaranteed rotation spot during spring training given Toronto's offseason additions, but he should get that opportunity based on the injuries the Blue Jays have dealt with early this season.
Even though the Blue Jays aren’t getting Berrios back at the same time as Yesavage, that’s not a bad thing.
Having to integrate one pitcher at a time will make things easier for the management and coaching staff.
