Veteran right-hander Yariel Rodriguez will not be part of the Toronto Blue Jays' Opening Day roster and is set to begin the season with Triple-A Buffalo.

According to Spanish-language MLB insider Francys Romero, the Toronto Blue Jays have informed Yariel Rodriguez that he did not make the team out of spring training and will report to their Triple-A affiliate.
Yariel Rodriguez has been informed that he did not make the Toronto Blue Jays Opening Day roster and will begin the 2026 season in Triple-A Buffalo, per source.
The 28-year-old signed a five-year, $30 million contract ahead of the 2024 season. While he struggled in his debut campaign as a starter, Rodriguez showed significant improvement in 2025 after transitioning to a relief role.
Last season, he posted a 3-2 record with a 3.08 ERA across 66 appearances.
He recorded 66 strikeouts over 73 innings and played a key role in helping Toronto reach the World Series.
Rodriguez was included on the playoff roster for both the American League Division Series and the ALCS, but was removed prior to the World Series.
Following the offseason additions of Dylan Cease and Cody Ponce, he was designated off the 40-man roster in December.
His spring training performance did little to strengthen his case, as he posted a 21.00 ERA and a 4.33 WHIP in three brief appearances.

Rodriguez looking to build on WBC performance

However, Rodriguez did impress on the international stage this month while pitching for Team Cuba in the World Baseball Classic.
He allowed just one earned run over six innings, striking out 10 batters and reaching 96 mph.
He will now begin the season in Triple-A, where he'll look to earn another opportunity. An injury or underperformance at the major league level could quickly open the door for his return.
While the Blue Jays have yet to finalize their roster, decisions will need to be made soon with Opening Day set for Friday.
There are still uncertainties surrounding the final bullpen spots and the last position on the bench.
Toronto is scheduled to open the season Friday night against the Athletics at 7:07 p.m. ET.
