In the message, Swanson expressed how thankful he was to his family, agents, teammates, coaches, medical staff, clubhouse managers, and everyone else in between who made his life and family's life easier.
What he didn't acknowledge in that announcement was why he was retiring.
Erik Swanson reveals his decision to retire was impacted by his release and spending time with family
After spending the rest of the season at home being a husband and a father, Swanson admitted that he felt that he was just at the point where he wanted to be with his family instead of being on the road playing baseball.
"It just kind of felt like I was ready to be at home, be a husband, be a father full- time," Swanson told the hosts. "Obviously, the day-to-day grind over 12 seasons in the minor leagues, in the big leagues, is a lot for a player to deal with. When you start mixing in a family, wife, kids, it's even more."
Swanson also shared an update on his son Toby who suffered a tragic accident in March 2024.
"Ya he's doing great, he's back to normal, he's able to just be himself and be a kid, his mother and I, the entire family are just so thankful of the outcome. He's doing awesome he's in hockey for the last two weeks. So he's doing that, he loves that. So that will be really fun to be around in my first full winter here this year. He's doing awesome and we couldn't be mor thankful as well."
