MLB insider Jon Heyman reports that the Toronto Blue Jays remain open to a potential reunion with veteran free-agent starter Max Scherzer.
The 41-year-old right-hander is in no rush to commit to what would be his 19th major league season.
However, Scherzer has emphasized that he is healthy and prepared to pitch if the right opportunity presents itself.
Speaking with Ken Rosenthal two weeks ago, Scherzer said he is comfortable waiting beyond Opening Day to sign, suggesting he is being selective about his next destination.

New York Post's John Heyman expanded on the situation during an appearance on MLB Network on Tuesday while discussing remaining free-agent starting pitchers.
During the segment, he hinted that the Blue Jays are still interested in a reunion with Scherzer.
“I hear the Blue Jays have interest,” Heyman said. “It’s going to be interesting to see what Max Scherzer decides. I know there are a number of teams looking at half a year for Max. Obviously, he’s 41 now, but he wants to be a full-year pitcher. He’s one of the most competitive guys ever.”
Earlier in November, several industry insiders connected Scherzer to the San Francisco Giants, where he would reunite with close friend, manager, and former pitching coach Tony Vitello.
A few weeks later, Scherzer appeared on the Leafs Morning Take podcast and spoke openly about unfinished business and running it back with the Blue Jays for the 2026 season.
Scherzer logged 85 regular-season innings for the Blue Jays in 2025 and made three postseason starts, including two appearances in the World Series against the Los Angeles Dodgers.
In Game 7, he surrendered just one run over 4⅓ innings before the Dodgers mounted their championship-clinching comeback.
Blue Jays manager John Schneider frequently praised Scherzer’s intensity, preparation, and leadership as the eight-time All-Star and three-time Cy Young Award winner pursued a third World Series ring.
That said, durability has been a concern. Scherzer has made only 26 total starts over the past two seasons and posted a career-worst 5.17 ERA across 17 regular-season outings with Toronto in 2025.
