Toronto Blue Jays legend surprises youth, shows up for baseball clinic

The town of about 43,000 people located about 40 minutes south of London, was surprised by a former baseball and legend of the Toronto Blue Jays

Jesse Barfield spent the first 8.5 seasons of his career in Toronto, where he was an integral part of the 1985 team that went to the American League Championship Series and with whom he represented in his only All-Star appearance in 1986.

He roamed right field at Exhibition Stadium and became part of a vaunted outfield trio along with George Bell and Lloyd Moseby

He was dealt to the New York Yankees midway through the 1989 season before injuries took their toll.

Barfield was in town for the annual St. Thomas Sports Spectacular which was set to feature other sporting greats including Ray Bourque, Marcel Dionne, and Monique Billings.

Prior to the event, Barfield spent the evening working hands-on with players from St. Thomas Minor Baseball, offering tips, advice, and wisdom from his major league career.

Barfield spoke at length about his pride in the event.

Barfield was one of the first superstars of the 1980's era of Blue Jays baseball and remains a beloved figure throughout the organization.

He was elected to the Canadian Baseball Hall of Fame in 2023.
