Dicky Lovelady is the latest victim of the Mets' roster merry-go-round.
The left-hander, who was formerly known as Richard, was designated for assignment on Thursday following New York's acquisition on infielder Vidal Brujan from the Minnesota Twins.
The Mets have designated Richard Lovelady for assignment to make room for Vidal Bruján on the 40-man roster
Brujan was, in part, acquired to fill the void left behind by Luisangel Acuna who was earlier dealt to the Chicago White Sox in exchange for Luis Robert Jr.
Lovelady, who spent the second half of 2025 in a Mets uniform following his release from the Toronto Blue Jays and then the Minnesota Twins, struggled to a 6.30 ERA in eight games over two stints.
New York however, took a flyer on him, re-signing the lefty to a split contract earlier this offseason.
While Lovelady has the right to reject an outright assignment should he pass through waivers, he would also lose his MiLB salary, so he is incentivized to stay with the team at Triple-A.
Lovelady broke into the majors with the Kansas City Royals in 2019 and spent the first three seasons of his career in Missouri. He has also suited up for the then-Oakland Athletics, Chicago Cubs, and Tampa Bay Rays.
He opened 2025 as a member of the Blue Jays, but was cut after giving up four runs in a relief appearance in which he pitched less than an inning.
Overall with Toronto, he had a 21.60 ERA in two games.
Lovelady changed name, caused media stir
Lovelady's biggest moment came when he first joined the Mets year. Up until that point, the 30 year old had been known as Richard. Upon signing with his new team however, he requested to be known as "Dicky Lovelady".
His request went viral as fans considered his new name humorous and he was even offered some ---- interesting, non-baseball opportunities.
He is 5-13 with a 5.35 ERA for his career.
