An old friend of the Toronto Blue Jays may soon be returning.

Newsweek has reported that Aaron Sanchez, once a fixture of the Blue Jays. the American League ERA leader in 2016, and a member of the 2016 All-Star Team, is attempting a major league comeback.
The Athletic's Ken Rosenthal was the first to report on Sanchez' plans.

*Aaron Sanchez attempting comeback
Although he pitched in a big league game since 2022, Sanchez has spent the last couple of seasons bouncing around in the minor leagues, including a second, brief stint with the Blue Jays in 2024.
After attempting a similar path last year, he ended up sitting out most of the 2025 season, though he did find success in winter ball.
After sitting out last season, Aaron Sanchez won the Dominican Winter League's Pitcher of the Year award this winter and is attracting interest from clubs, league sources said. - Ken Rosenthal

Several teams could take a flyer on the one-time All-Star, which would likely come in the form of a minor league contract with an invite to Spring Training. He has a track record to boot as well.
Sanchez was dealt to the Houston Astros in 2019, three years removed from their magical 2016 run. In his first start with Houston, he threw the first six innings and what was ultimately a combined no-hitter.
After sitting out 2020, he appeared in games for the San Francisco Giants, Washington Nationals, and Minnesota Twins.

Sanchez would be low-risk addition

Although he hasn't pitched in three seasons, Sanchez represents a low-risk option for many teams looking for starting pitching or long relief depth.
If he does sign however, it likely won't be with the Blue Jays.
