The Toronto Blue Jays have officially announced the signings of catcher CJ Stubbs, and right-handed pitcher Connor Seabold.

The Toronto Blue Jays announced Friday that they have signed right-handed pitcher Connor Seabold and catcher C.J. Stubbs to minor-league contracts, with both players receiving invitations to Spring Training.
OFFICIAL: We've signed RHP Connor Seabold and C C.J. Stubbs to Minor League deals with invites to #SpringTraining.

RHP Connor Seabold

Seabold, 30, split the 2025 season between Tampa Bay and Atlanta, making seven major-league appearances.
While his combined 4.35 ERA and 4.20 FIP appear respectable on the surface, underlying metrics painted a less encouraging picture.
A 12.5% walk rate and a 15.6% barrel rate suggested that Seabold may have benefited from some good fortune in limiting damage.
Those concerns were echoed at the Triple-A level, where Seabold struggled to a 6.07 ERA across stops with Durham (Rays) and Gwinnett (Braves), further highlighting the challenges he faced last season.
That said, Seabold’s limited big-league opportunities have come almost exclusively in hitter-friendly environments, which may have contributed to his uneven results.
The Blue Jays will likely view him as organizational depth, especially given their current surplus of starting pitching options, though he could work his way into a larger role with a strong showing.
Originally selected by the Philadelphia Phillies in the third round of the 2017 draft, Seabold has appeared in parts of four MLB seasons.
Since debuting in 2021, he has accumulated 119 innings at the major-league level with the Red Sox, Rockies, Rays, Braves, and also spent a season pitching in South Korea.

C CJ Stubbs

Stubbs, 29, was released by the Astros in May 2024 before quickly signing a minor-league deal with Washington.
His time in the Nationals organization led to his first taste of the majors, albeit briefly.
Stubbs’ big-league résumé consists of one game, in which he went 0-for-3 while catching in Washington’s 2–0 win over Miami on September 1, 2025.
That appearance did not lead to additional playing time, and after being outrighted off the Nationals’ 40-man roster in late October, Stubbs elected minor-league free agency.
Across his minor-league career, Stubbs has shown power and athleticism, hitting 72 home runs and stealing 52 bases, though his plate discipline remains a concern, as he has struck out 648 times in 1,854 plate appearances.
Unless the Blue Jays bring in additional catching depth on a minor-league deal, Stubbs currently profiles as the top call-up option should Alejandro Kirk or Tyler Heineman miss time due to injury.
