The Texas Rangers are sticking with one of their key depth pieces

On Thursday evening it was announced that the Rangers had signed starting pitcher Cal Quantrill to a minor league deal.
After splitting the season between the Miami Marlins and Atlanta Braves, Quantrill finished up the year on a minor league deal with the Rangers, who are effectively re-signing him.
The Texas Rangers have signed veteran right-hander Cal Quantrill to a minor league deal with an invite to big league camp.
Evan Grant of the Dallas Morning News was the first to report the story.
Quantrill is the second Canadian big leaguer to find a new home in recent days, following following Colorado's acquisition of Quebec City-born infielder Edouard Julien
Cal, who is the son of longtime Toronto Blue Jays reliever Paul Quantrill, is most well-known for his time as a member of the Cleveland Guardians, though he got his start with the San Diego Padres back in 2019.
Quantrill was a top prospect, and former first round draft when San Diego selected him with the 8th overall pick in 2016. While his first year with the Padres didn't go great, he found himself in Cleveland, where he a combined 27-15 with a 3.58 ERA in 99 games - 75 starts - in 3.5 seasons.
It's been a bit of a bumpy ride for Quantrill since leaving the midwest, as he spent a season in mile-high Colorado before his journeyman route a year ago.

Quantrill gives the Rangers solid, veteran depth

While Texas is likely set at the major league level in regards to their rotation, the 4th and 5th spots could change depending on how the season progresses.
For now, Quantrill will likely begin the year at Triple-A Round Rock and should be the first line of defence in case of injury.
