One of Canada’s top baseball players will have a new city to call home in 2026.
The Colorado Colorado Rockies have acquired infielder Edouard Julien from the Minnesota Twins along with right-hander Pierson Ohl
In return, the Twins are receiving right-hander Jace Kaminska and cash considerations.
The Rockies announced today they have acquired INF Edouard Julien and RHP Pierson Ohl from Minnesota in exchange for Minor League RHP Jace Kaminska and cash considerations.
Julien has spent his entire professional career with Minnesota.
Although he was originally selected by the Philadelphia Phillies in the 37th Round of the 2017 Draft, Julien didn’t sign and instead attended Auburn University in Alabama where he played for the Tigers.
The native of Quebec City famously couldn’t speak English when he arrived in the southern U.S, though he has since learned and speaks with a slight southern accent.
He was eventually drafted in the 18th round by the Twins, but due to COVID, did not make his professional debut until 2021.
He made his major league debut early in the 2023 season and ended up finishing with a .263/.381/.459 slash line while hitting 16 home runs, 16 doubles, and garnering 37 RBIs. He received two votes in that year’s American League Rookie of the Year voting.
Julien has been up-and-down since then, trying to replicate his rookie season success while also trying to find a home defensively. He played multiple positions with the Twins, as they struggled to find the best hit for him, though most of his experience is up the middle.
He has a better path to playing time in Colorado, as they have openings and both first and second base, the latter of which is Julien’s most natural position.
Julien starred for Team Canada in World Baseball Classic
Internationally, Julien has epresented Team Canada and suited up for them during the 2023 World Baseball Classic, in which homered on the first pitch of his first plate appearance.
