Trey Yesavage returned to Toronto on Wednesday for the first time since Game 7 of the World Series, making an appearance to speak with students as part of Rogers’ Screen Break initiative.
The Blue Jays pitcher took time to talk about baseball and reflect on a whirlwind year that saw him rocket through the organization at an astonishing pace.
Asked about his rapid ascent, Yesavage described the experience as “an unbelievable ride.”
Last year, Yesavage pitched in Dunedin, Fla.; Vancouver; Manchester, N.H.; Buffalo, N.Y. and Toronto — all within the span of six months.
“I couldn’t really settle down anywhere,” he told reporters. “I was bouncing from team to team. But I was fortunate the organization pushed me through the minors that quickly. It was an unbelievable ride.”

As he heads into the Spring Training, Yesavage has been working on expanding his repertoire, including the addition of a curveball.
“It’s the shortest offseason I’ve ever had,” he said. “I’m experimenting with grips and trying to find what feels most comfortable. I have a funky arm angle, so it takes some trial and error.”
The memories of the World Series loss still linger. Toronto was just two outs away from its first championship in 32 years before the opportunity slipped away in front of a sold-out Rogers Centre.
Yesavage said he coped with the disappointment by retreating into nature.

When speaking with students at the Screen Break event, Yesavage emphasized growth as his main objective heading into 2026.
“We got ourselves into a position to accomplish what every baseball player dreams of,” he said. “We came up short, but that just means we have to get back to work and do it this season.”
Despite being selected 20th overall in the 2024 draft, Yesavage said he still feels like a rookie, having yet to experience a full major league season.
“That’s what I’m most excited about this year,” he said.
