Toronto Blue Jays outfield prospect RJ Schreck is poised for a Spring Training breakout in 2026.
As Spring Training nears, the Toronto Blue Jays’ outfield picture appears largely settled.
Daulton Varsho and Anthony Santander are penciled into two of the three Opening Day spots, while the remaining role is expected to be filled from a crowded mix that includes Myles Straw, Addison Barger, Nathan Lukes, Davis Schneider, Jonatan Clase, Kazuma Okamoto, and Joey Loperfido.
That congestion leaves little room for prospects to break through, at least on paper.
One name, however, stands out from within the organization: RJ Schreck.
Originally selected by the Seattle Mariners in the ninth round of the 2023 MLB Draft out of Vanderbilt, Schreck spent less than a full season in Seattle’s system before being acquired by Toronto at the 2024 trade deadline in exchange for veteran Justin Turner.
Prior to the trade, Schreck was in the midst of a strong campaign, posting an .865 OPS with 12 home runs at Single-A, which earned him a promotion to Double-A, where he appeared in eight games.
After joining the Blue Jays organization, he picked up right where he left off. In 41 games with the Double-A New Hampshire Fisher Cats, Schreck launched nine home runs while producing a .914 OPS, performance that quickly led to a promotion to Triple-A Buffalo.
He finished the season slashing .242/.392/.435 with an .828 OPS across 58 games at the highest minor league level, firmly placing himself on the radar as a potential Major League contributor in 2026.

2026 Spring Training pivotal for Schreck's path within the Blue Jays organization
Schreck’s player profile bears similarities to former Blue Jays top prospect Alan Roden, another advanced collegiate bat who initially struggled to gain traction in the majors before ultimately being moved at last year’s trade deadline in the deal that brought back Louis Varland.
A cerebral and disciplined hitter, Schreck is known for his mature approach at the plate and his ability to execute detailed game plans, particularly as a left-handed bat.
That plate discipline is his calling card, though continued growth in his power output will be critical to unlocking his full offensive ceiling.
While Toronto’s outfield depth chart is currently crowded, Spring Training often has a way of reshaping expectations, with hot performances forcing difficult roster decisions.
For Schreck, 2026 looms as a pivotal season. Much like Roden before him, he could emerge as a reliable Major League contributor—or become a valuable trade asset at the deadline.
Given his well-rounded offensive skill set and advanced approach, Schreck has a legitimate path to sustained success in Toronto.
How he performs in Spring Training may ultimately determine where that path leads within the Blue Jays organization.
