After guiding the Toronto Blue Jays to the World Series in 2025, general manager Ross Atkins and manager John Schneider are still awaiting long-term job security.

Toronto Blue Jays general manager Ross Atkins and manager https://www.baseball-reference.com/managers/schnejo99.shtml are entering the final year of their current contracts.
The Blue Jays exercised their club option for Schneider’s 2026 season last November, while Atkins is also approaching the end of his deal.
The pressure on this leadership duo was immense heading into the 2025 campaign.
Toronto had finished dead last in the AL East in 2024, putting both the front office and coaching staff firmly under the microscope.
That narrative, however, has been completely rewritten following the Blue Jays’ AL pennant and dramatic run to the World Series.

Shapiro will look to lock up Atkins and Schneider before Opening Day

Most organizations prefer to avoid having managers or senior executives operating on expiring contracts—especially after a season that comes within inches of a championship.
Toronto pushed the Los Angeles Dodgers to the limit in a seven-game Fall Classic, coming agonizingly close to its first World Series title in more than three decades.
A blown save or one timely hit could have changed franchise history. Like any manager, Schneider has faced his share of criticism.
His handling of the pitching staff during the 2023 Wild Card Series loss to Minnesota drew significant backlash from fans.
More recently, some questioned his aggressive pinch-running decisions in Game 3 of this year’s World Series, which left the Blue Jays with a depleted lineup in an 18-inning marathon.
Even so, the results speak for themselves. Schneider has led Toronto to win just over 54 percent of its regular-season games during his three-plus years as manager.
Under his leadership, the Blue Jays have reached the postseason twice, captured an American League championship, and built what appears to be a strong, unified clubhouse culture.
Schneider was runner up to Gaurds skip Stephen Vogt for American League manager of the year in 2025
Meanwhile, 'Ross the Boss' as George Springer like to call him, is entering the final guaranteed year of the five-year extension he signed in April 2021.
Hired as general manager in December 2015, Atkins is one of the longest-tenured GMs in franchise history.
After initially signing a four-year deal, he received an extension in 2019 and later the five-year contract that currently runs through 2026.
The Atkins–Shapiro era has been marked by both highs and lows, but there are now legitimate reasons for optimism.
The organization appears to be aligned, making smarter decisions with an eye toward sustained success rather than short-term fixes.
With team president and CEO Mark Shapiro already receiving an extension earlier this offseason, Atkins and Schneider should follow with deals of their own before Opening Day.
