The Blue Jays are promoting their No. 2 prospect Trey Yesavage to Triple-A ahead of his next appearance, bringing him one final step closer to being an option for the big club down the stretch.
News: The #BlueJays are promoting No. 2 prospect Trey Yesavage to Triple-A Buffalo, source says, his fourth level in 2025 after opening the year in Single-A.
Yesavage has a combined 3.01 ERA with a ridiculous 15.0 K/9
He'll be waiting on the doorstep if the big club needs him.
Yesavage (MLB Pipeline's No. 49 overall prospect) has blown through the Minor Leagues this season, now touching all four full-season levels after opening in Single-A.
He's posted a combined 3.01 ERA with an incredible 134 strikeouts over 80 2/3 innings, good for a strikeout rate of 15.0 per nine innings.
Trey Yesavage is being transferred to the Bisons and is slated to pitch during the homestand.
Welcome to the Herd, Trey!
Drafted just a year ago with the 20th pick in the first round, Yesavage has quickly become the face of the Blue Jays' pitching development, which has undergone a major turnaround in 2025.
This talent helped fuel Toronto's big additions at the Trade Deadline, as the organization dealt Khal Stephen, Juaron Watts-Brown and Kendry Rojas, all of whom ranked in the Top 10 at the time, but what Yesavage has done stands above everyone.
In an excellent year for this farm system, Yesavage has been the brightest star
Trey Yesavage needed time to adjust following his AA promotion, battling his command at times, especially early on. But he had certainly settled in as of late. #BlueJays. His last 3 outings with New Hampshire: 2.08 ERA, 0.69 FIP, 23 Ks & 0 walks
There is a good chance that Yesavage will be a September call-up for the Toronto Blue Jays
It's easy to see why the Blue Jays could be tempted by the idea of Yesavage in their bullpen as they chase not only a postseason spot but the top spot in the American League and a bye through the Wild Card round.
Earlier this month, Blue Jays manager John Schneider mentioned Yesavage, alongside lefty Adam Macko, as a potential big-league pitching option down the stretch.
«I think Yesavage could (factor in),» Schneider said. «I know he's not on the 40-man, but I think he could.»
With five healthy starters in the big-league rotation and Shane Bieber and Alek Manoah working back from Tommy John surgeries at the top of Toronto's system, the Jays' starting pitching depth appears to be in a good place.
However, Yesavage came out of the bullpen for the first time in his professional career last week, throwing five innings of relief with nine strikeouts at New Hampshire.
That flexibility could position Yesavage, now on the cusp of his big-league debut, to fill any role for Toronto in the final weeks of the season.
