The Toronto Blue Jays have added another pitcher to their roster of hopefuls.
According to a report from Sportsnet's Shi Davidi, right hander Nate Garkow has been given an invite to Spring Training.
The Club has not confirmed, nor has the non-roster page on the team's website been updated.
Garkow will more than likely start the season at Triple-A Buffalo
Garkow, who was signed as undrafted free agent in 2024, is an alumnus of Point Loma Nazarene University, where he played for the Sea Lions.
Eagle-eyed Spring Training watchers may remember Garkow from last year, as the righty got into a single game towards the end of camp, striking out four batters in 1.2 innings while picking up the save.
Speaking of strike outs, they're kind of Garkow's calling card and M.O. In 53.2 innings split between High-A Vancouver and Double-A New Hampshire last season, Garkow fanned a very respectable 86 batters.
Overall, in his two minor league seasons, Garkow has struck out 120 batters in 77.2 innings.
His stint with New Hampshire was particularly notable. In spite of a 7.56 ERA in 10 games with Vancouver, Garkow was promoted to the Fisher Cats and never looked back.
In 29 Double-A Games, the 28-year old went 3-0 with a 1.22 ERA, an 0.78 WHIP, with an OBA of 0.98.
He also garnered six holds, three saves and struck out 54 batters in 37 innings.
Given the Blue Jays' busy off-season and the dearth and depth of pitching options, Garkow's chances of making the opening day roster are slim.
However, given his performance in Double-A, it seems conceivable that he could start the year at Triple-A.
He could be considered a dark horse to receive a call-up at some point during the season.
