It took three starts, but Trey Yesavage finally won his first big league game.
The Toronto Blue Jays phenom, who has gone all the way from Single-A to the big leagues this year, made the third start of his young career, and first on home soil.
Yesavage was solid in his first outing at Rogers Centre, throwing 62 of his 94 pitches for strikes while blanking the Tampa Bay Rays through five innings. He gave up five hits and strike out five while walking two.
He might have come back out for the sixth were it not for an Andres Gimenez error that extended his fifth inning by several pitches.
Given the stakes, it was a very impressive home debut for the 22 year old, who revelled in the atmosphere of a crowded Rogers Centre.
Trey Yesavage on his home Blue Jays debut:
«Playing in front of this crowd, it's hard not to be fired up. Going out there for the first time was special. If I could do it again tomorrow, I would. That was a lot of fun.»
Given the stakes, this is one of the most impressive home debuts in Blue Jays history by Trey Yesavage. Five shoutout innings in what is essentially a must-win game
