Toronto Blue Jays rookie Trey Yesavage makes second rehab start for single-A Dunedin

Toronto Blue Jays right-hander Trey Yesavage made his second rehab appearance on Thursday with the Class-A Dunedin Blue Jays, surrendering four runs while recording six strikeouts and one walk across 2.2 innings.

The 22-year-old began his rehab assignment on April 3, officially triggering the 30-day window teams are allotted to evaluate players recovering from injury while they remain on the major-league injured list.

Yesavage has been sidelined since the start of the season with a shoulder impingement.

Despite the runs allowed, all the damage came via singles. Yesavage showed encouraging signs, throwing 34 of his 52 pitches for strikes, generating 10 swinging misses, and reaching a top velocity of 96.1 m.p.h. with his four-seam fastball.

In 2025, his first professional season, he surged through all four levels of the Blue Jays’ minor-league system before making his MLB debut on September 15.

He made an immediate impact, setting a franchise record with nine strikeouts in his debut, and quickly became an integral part of Toronto’s World Series push.

Across six postseason appearances — five as a starter — Yesavage posted a 3.58 ERA, striking out 39 batters over 27.2 innings while issuing 11 walks.

His playoff run included a dominant 11-strikeout, no-hit outing over 5.1 innings against the Yankees in the ALDS, followed by a 12-strikeout performance the Dodgers in Game 5 of the World Series.

Toronto’s starting rotation has been hit hard by injuries, with José Berríos (right elbow stress fracture), Shane Bieber (right elbow inflammation), and Cody Ponce (ACL sprain) all currently sidelined alongside Yesavage.

In the meantime, veteran left-hander Patrick Corbin is set to take the mound in Friday’s series opener against the Minnesota Twins.
