The Toronto Blue Jays have signed former Staten Island FerryHawks closer to a minor-league deal with an invite to spring training.

The Toronto Blue Jays signed RHP Tanner Andrews to a minor league contract.
For those not in the know, the Staten Island FerryHawks are an independent professional baseball team in the Atlantic League, which is the highest level of professional baseball outside of Major League Baseball.

Blue Jays looking to capitalize on Andrew's recent surge at the minor league level

Tanner Andrews was lights-out in 2025, posting a perfect 0.00 ERA across 15 relief appearances.
Over 13.2 innings pitched, the FerryHawks' closer has struck out 25 batters, recorded 3 saves, and didn't surrender a run solidifying himself as one of the most dominant bullpen arms in the Atlantic League this past season.
Originally drafted by the Miami Marlins in the 10th round of the 2018 MLB Draft out of Purdue University, Andrews climbed as high as Triple-A and spent time with both the Marlins and San Francisco Giants organizations before arriving in Staten Island for the 2025 campaign.
Andrews showing with the FerryHawks earned a contract selection from the Minnesota Twins in June where he reported to Double-A Witchita.
"Tanner's been a rock at the back end of our bullpen," said FerryHawks Manager Mark Minicozzi. "He brings experience, poise, and intensity every time he takes the mound. We're proud of what he's done here and excited to see him get another shot in affiliated ball with the Twins."

Complete dominance from Tanner Andrews. He's heading to the Twins organization and will report to Double-A Wichita! 🔥
Andrews became the third FerryHawk to earn a contract with a Major League organization this season, joining Mahoney and left-hander Brennen Oxford, who was signed by the Twins earlier in the year.
Andrews finished the 2025 season with the Wichita Winds turning in a solid 3.78 ERA in 16.2 innings pitched with 18 strikeouts.
This appears to be another depth signing for the Blue Jays which will help improve their minor league system which has been a goal they have working on over the last couple years.
The Blue Jays are looking to improve their MLB roster in hopes of returning to the World Series next season but it seems that a clear goal for Atkins is to also improve their middling farm system which has been improving over the last couple of seasons
Over its 26-year history, the ALPB has helped more than 1,400 players reach Major League Baseball organizations.
