It would be an understatement to call Sunday a difficult outing for Toronto Blue Jays starter Max Scherzer.

Max Scherzer lasted just 2 1/3 innings, surrendering eight runs in what became an 8–2 Toronto Blue Jays loss to the Minnesota Twins in front of a crowd of 37,804.
Scherzer (1–2) gave up five hits and eight earned runs, marking his second consecutive losing start.
In his previous appearance last Monday against the Dodgers, he exited after only two innings due to forearm tendinitis.
Following that outing, Scherzer underwent an MRI, which revealed no ligament damage, and he was cleared to pitch Sunday against a Twins lineup featuring five left-handed hitters and three switch-hitters.
Early on, there were encouraging signs. Scherzer’s fastball reached 94.1 mph in the first inning as he recorded two flyouts and a strikeout to end the frame.
However, things quickly unraveled in the second. Struggling with command, he walked Josh Bell and hit Matt Wallner before giving up a three-run home run to Tristan Gray, who capitalized on a cutter left over the middle of the plate.
The trouble continued into the third inning. Kody Clemens led off with a 417-foot home run to right-centre, and the Twins followed with a string of offensive pressure, single, single, walk, single, and a sacrifice fly.
In total, Scherzer allowed eight runs on five hits over 2 1/3 innings, walking two and striking out three on 68 pitches, 41 of them strikes.

Scherzer shares thoughts on outing, how forearm feels

After the game, Scherzer talked about his disappointing outing to Sportsnet's Hazel Mae.
Max Scherzer on Sunday’s disappointing outing:

“(I) lost the ball game. I can look at myself and face in the mirror, and I'm accountable for how I go out there and execute. Today I didn't get it done.”
Scherzer told MLB.com's Keegan Matheson that his forearm felt fine and did not tighten up during the outing, adding that he would monitor how he feels in the coming days.
Max Scherzer says that his forearm feels good and did not tighten up on him today. He still needs to see how he bounces back tomorrow, but believes he’s avoided any threat of the IL... #BlueJays
Looking ahead, right-hander Kevin Gausman (0–1, 2.08 ERA) is expected to take the mound Tuesday in Milwaukee against Brewers right-hander Jacob Misiorowski (1–1)..31).
