Dealing with an apparent surplus of arms, the Boston Red Sox are trying to shed some salary.

Jen McCaffrey of The Athletic has reported that the team is looking at trade options for Brayan Bello, Patrick Sandoval, and Jordan Hicks.
While both Bello and Sandoval received interest back in December, Hicks' market hasn't been as strong.
Jen McCaffrey is saying the Red Sox are active in trade talks for infielders; nothing is imminent. They’ve also received interest on their pitching.

Brayan Bello, Patrick Sandoval, and even Jordan Hicks have come up.

There’s a reason I’ve been talking about Hicks recently 👀
Part of that likely has to do with his contract. Just prior to the 2024 season, the fireballer was signed a four year, $44MM contract with the San Francisco Giants, who hoped to convert the hard-throwing righty into a starter.
While the transition started off well, Hicks likely ran out of steam and was eventually shifted back to the bullpen.
In 2025, he was sent to beantown as part of the haul for superstar Rafael Devers.
His overall numbers in 2025 were a disaster, as he went a combined 2-7 with a 6.95 ERA in 34 games.
Prior to signing with the Giants, Hicks was a successful reliever with the St. Louis Cardinals, where he spent the first five seasons of his career and a 3.98 ERA with 28 saves.
He was dealt to the Toronto Blue Jays midway through 2023 and fared even better, going 2-3 with a 2.63 ERA in 25 games and picked up four saves.

Hicks was held record for fastest pitch

In many ways, Hicks epitomizes the modern-day pitcher. When he was a reliever, he consistently measured above 100mph on the radar gun, with his fastest pitch coming in at 105.
While that likely had a detrimental affect on his right arm, he will try to prove his usefulness to whatever team he ends up with in 2026.
