Toronto Blue Jays' Daulton Varsho get surprising ranking in MLB Network's Top 10 Centerfielders

MLB Network ranked Toronto Blue Jays outfielder Daulton Varsho the 8th best centerfielder in their top 10 list on Friday.

The 29-year-old center fielder saw his 2024 campaign cut short, appearing in just 71 games due to injury.

Despite the limited action, the left-handed hitter still managed to showcase his power, launching 20 home runs while driving in 55 runs and posting a .238 batting average.

Varsho remained a fixture in the lineup during the postseason, appearing in all 18 games for Toronto. He batted .227 in October, adding three home runs and 10 RBIs.

When combining his production across Spring Training, rehabilitation assignments, the regular season, and the playoffs, Varsho totaled 30 home runs in just 439 plate appearances.

Projected over a full 600 plate appearances, that pace would translate to an impressive 41-homer season.

A native of Marshfield, Wisconsin, Varsho’s greatest value continues to come from his elite defense.

He consistently made highlight-reel plays in center field and finished 29th in Major League Baseball in outs above average, an impressive feat considering his reduced playing time.

While Varsho has yet to fully unlock his offensive ceiling, the upcoming season presents a major opportunity.

If he can pair his elite glove with sustained production at the plate, Varsho could be entering his prime, and play a pivotal role in the Blue Jays’ push back into contention.

Being that Varsho is playing in a contract year, now may be a good time for Toronto to sign him to an extension.
